Pilates & Ballet with Kimberly Boman
Stability. Strength. Alignment. Flexibility.
Stability. Strength. Alignment. Flexibility. To take these four core benefits of dance and be able to apply them through Pilates and ballet to the every-day person, not only the dancer, not only the fit, but every person at every level is what inspires me.
My love of movement began in my first ballet class at age six and continued to grow as I danced professionally with the Bavarian State Opera Ballet Company in Munich, Germany and later with the Pittsburgh Ballet Theater in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Even after taking a break from professional dance to complete my education in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and while working for six years at Genentech, I found a way to incorporate dance into my life and the lives of others through teaching. After my second child, I decided to shift my priorities and left Genentech to focus exclusively on the two things I love most; my family and dance.
While training for the Nutcracker, I was introduced to Pilates as a means to strengthen my core (which had been challenged by 2 pregnancies!). Pilates opened my mind and body to a more organic way of dance and movement. With my increased strength I was able to move more gracefully both on and off the dance floor.
This personal experience and my positive outcome inspired me to become certified in Pilates so I could share the philosophy and training with my ballet students as well as others purely interested in gaining an increased range of motion, decreased muscle tension and a stronger core.
To me, exercise and dance are a way of life and a way of carrying oneself that extends far beyond the studio and into every aspect of our being.
"There are so many good ballet/pilates instructors, however, Kim is beyond good - she is exceptional! Her ability to not only demonstrate with perfect form but also with a verbal description that is easy to apply to the body makes her stand way above the rest. After a short amount of time working with Kim, my posture has improved, my core feels stronger and I have greatly increased my flexibility and balance." -Ilene S.
"Kim is an exceptional teacher. She is very good at encouraging students. She makes us feel that we are special, and if we try, we can make it. I’m a mother of two boys, and nobody commends me for anything at home. At Kim’s class, she praises me for the smallest improvement I make, and I feel happy for the entire day." -Leslie S.
"Kim is a great instructor. She has a good understanding of how the body moves and can make you understand how to use it in the right way so it can benefit your over all well-being. She pays attention to detail and leaves you feeling confident and encouraged." -Karen D
