Mat Classes
Pilates is a unique arrangement of exercises which increase flexibility, strengthen and tone the body. The goal of Pilates is a balanced body, one that moves naturally, correctly and efficiently. Pilates focuses on the “powerhouse” or core strengthening of the abdominals, pelvic floor, muscles around the hip joint and muscles of the lower back. The central element of Pilates is to create a fusion of mind and body so you will move with greater efficiency, grace, and balance. Concentration and control replace the mindless calisthenics of other exercise regimes. Precision and fluidity are emphasized over speed and repetition.
Pilates mat classes are open to all levels with a focus on strength, precision and flow of movement. Various props such as foam rollers, Pilates rings, balls and thera-bands are incorporated to enhance and intensify this Pilates workout. Students are given movement options and modifications to ensure that each person is working safely and at her/his appropriate level of challenge. With regular attendance, students will experience increased strength, flexibility, and stamina.
